Water, Fire & Smoke Damage Restoration FAQs

Immediately following a fire, resist the urge to enter the property and start to clean. Doing so may lead to injury or further damage. Give us a call instead! We’ll send technicians to your doorstep to address the situation promptly.

The time frame required to fully clean up after fire damage varies. We can offer a better assessment once our technicians are on-site, and they assess the damage more thoroughly. We’ll then work quickly and efficiently to provide results.

Always keep safety first! We recommend you stay off the property. The situation may still be unsafe, and further damage or injury is entirely possible. Wait until we give the “all-clear” before entering your property.

No – we recommend that you not clean up the mess yourself. Our specialists are trained to handle water, fire, and smoke damage properly. We have the right tools and equipment for the job, and know best how to avoid damage.

We do our best to salvage and restore your possessions whenever possible. After a fire, much may be lost.

After a fire or flood, safety concerns typically include the structural integrity of the building, and contamination inside it. The structural soundness of your home or business is our number one concern. One wrong step may lead to collapsed walls or flooring.

If possible, try to keep personal identification among your easily-accessible possessions. You may also wish to have a phone, insurance information, and money or credit cards for temporary accommodations.

We recommend beginning this process early, before a disaster ever strikes. If possible, take the time to snap a few photos of prized possessions, and write down information on the product or item in a notebook – and keep the notebook in a safe place. If an item is lost during the disaster, information like this will make it much easier to replace it, or receive money from the insurance company.

We do our best to save as many special items as possible. If you give us a description and last known location, our technicians will work quickly to rescue and restore these items.

Typically, you, the homeowner, will be responsible for payment. However, you may wish to file a claim with your insurance provider, who will then cover the cost of restoration and repairs. It solely depends on the type of insurance you have in place, however.

We recommend filing a claim with your insurance company as soon as possible. Your insurance company will wish to send an insurance adjuster to assess the damage and determine a total value for the loss.

Whenever possible, Restoration 1 of McDonough will communicate with your insurance adjuster. We only wish to provide the best possible restoration services for your home or business.

Restoration 1 of McDonough is trained and equipped to handle both asbestos and lead in your home or business. We have dealt with these situations many times. This is one more reason to let the pros handle your restoration needs.

We also provide reconstruction services for cases when the property damage is too severe. However, depending on the type of upgrade or remodel, you may wish to speak with an experienced contractor. The choice is yours.

Mold Remediation FAQs

Mildew is a surface fungus, usually white or light gray. It’s relatively easy to clean, and generally only harmful when ingested. Mold, however, is indicative of a more severe problem throughout your home. Mold is harmful to your health through physical exposure or breathing mold spores.

There are over 100,000 types of mold spores. Typically, mold is black or dull green. Regarding appearance, most mold is either fuzzy or moist, depending on the environment and type of mold spore.

The cost for mold remediation varies – it all depends on the severity of the infestation. We’ll always provide you with a full quote before we begin any work.

Mold will typically spread throughout your home within 48 hours of water damage. Again, the time frame can vary depending on the severity of the situation.

Avoid the impulse to do it yourself. We always recommend hiring an expert to handle a mold infestation. You never want to clean mold yourself because you risk further contamination and exposure. Improper handing can actually spread the growth further into the property.

Generally, we require 3–7 days to fully remove a mold infestation. This time frame varies depending on the scope of the job, however.

Every home in the country has mold, albeit at a low, acceptable level. The role of mold remediation is to return the infestation to such an acceptable level without spreading the spores further.

Because our technicians are trained to handle mold after water damage of any amount, we know what to look for, where to look, and just when to begin looking. Visual inspection is a start, and we also employ equipment to detect the presence of mold.

Mold often leads to severe health concerns, including long-term respiratory illness, chronic coughing, irritation, depression, and more. Mold is also harmful to pets.
